The Fedora Project switched a while back to DSO linking for the packages. I'm only able to build xmount with additional flags.

make %{?_smp_mflags} CFLAGS="%{optflags} -lz"

Usually this is handled in the Makefile.

My primary targeted build platform is Debian.

If you / someone else can supply me with a patch to make building under Fedora possible, I can add it to the next release (as long as it doesn't break building under Debian) but I can't investigate this myself. Sorry.
